our roots
Almagre was created by people who believe in this city. With each new visitor, new resident, and new dream, we see a new community taking shape.
We’re a city of natives, transplants, just-startings, now-retirings, and only-visitings. We’ve made national headlines for good things and bad things, and all of this buzz tells us something we already know - we’re a city figuring it out.
We also know we’re tired of other people, in other cities, telling us what our town is. Wanting to claim our story, we decided to start a local love brand. Almagre celebrates what we love about the Springs, while offering a wink to the oddities that make up our town. We’re the ones who hike these hills, bike these streets, and choose to call these spacious skies home. This is our chapter of this story, and we’re here to reclaim the narrative.
Red Earth
The name Almagre was chosen to honor a part of our rich history and pay tribute to our largest landmark, Pikes Peak. Almagre is the Spanish word for red ochre, which is a red earth tone prominent in the soil of the Rockies. When Spanish explorers first came to our region, they called Pikes Peak “Almagre” in reference to the red earth present in its soil.
